Patrol Division
The Patrol Division is currently staffed by 8 officers who work on 4 separate 12 hour shifts. These officers conduct preliminary investigations and complete reports of crimes, investigate traffic accidents, respond to calls for service, assist motorists, complete business and school checks, and conduct traffic enforcement.
Investigations Division
The Investigations Division is led by Sergeant Carolyn Durham and is responsible for the investigation of crimes, the collection and processing of physical evidence, interviews of witnesses, interrogations of suspects, and prosecution of major cases.
Communications Division
The Communications Division is staffed by 4 communications officers and one supervisor. The division provides public safety dispatch services for the police, fire, and rescue departments, along with after hours dispatch services for public utilities.
Administrative Division
The Administrative Division includes the Office of the Chief and the Crime Prevention Unit, and also includes the activities of Budgeting, Recruitment, Planning, and Training.
Narcotics Unit
The Piedmont Police Department Narcotics Unit was organized in 2008 and is made up of 5 officers with specialized training and experience in drug investigations. These officers work drug investigations in addition their regular patrol assignments. This unit has been very successful and has greatly improved our efforts in the fight against drug dealers and manufacturers.
Bike Patrol Unit
The Bike Patrol Unit operates as needed to provided police presence and security on the Chief Ladiga Trail and for special events. This assignment is undertaken by patrol officers in addition to their normal activities.
K9 Unit
The K9 unit consists of two dogs who are currently in training and their handlers, Sergeant Freddie Norton and Officer Nathan Johnson.
Specialized Traffic Enforcement Program
This program is funded through ADECA and includes the Click It or Ticket, Over the Limit Under Arrest, and Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP).
